An Ikebana Installation by Camille Henrot

My friend introduced me to the work of Camille Henrot which really reminds me of the small installations my kid is creating with all these branches and leaves he is collecting on our strolls and bike rides. I should definitely connect them someday. Camille is an artist living in New York and is best known for her videos and animated films. In her more recent work, she adapts diverse media of sculpture, drawing, photography and film.
This installation called Is it possible to be a revolutionary and like flowers? is about the translation of an entire library into ikebana, a Japanese tradition that was originally created to “console the soul”.

A Special Ornithologist: Juan Fontanive

Incredible and ultra elaborate work by Brooklyn-based painter and maker Juan Fontanive, who “makes films without using light” as the info claims. He is reusing mechanical parts of found clocks as portable containers of his animations, or his flip-books to be precise, because we’re not talking about digitally created films or animations here. All images are hand-drawn or screen-printed, hummingbirds or butterflies flying across the pages. And the sound of his little machines are just beautiful!
