Following the ascending order of The Dusty Cabinets, #11 is next (cover above). Here is a fresh mix by Mr. JB. himself: JENNE GRABOWSKI. It took at least a year to finally record and release something new like this. But now, this extraordinary mix has been set straight for the sunny season. It’s the Low End Theory style, because it’s vinyl only, with a damaged mixer and completely worn-out needles. One take. No effects, no tricks. Pure love and energy!
Tracks by FaltyDL, J. Orbison, Boddika, George Fitzgerald, Pearson Sound, Julio Bashmore, Martyn, 2562, Skudge, Sepalcure and more …
But there is more. Already been posted a few weeks ago, this one comes from our good friend JOHN OSBORN who gave us a recording exclusively from his Jackson club night. It has been recorded at Cookies Berlin two months ago, where he opened up for his guest Paul Rose aka Scuba. Get these smooth and superb House tunes right here.
It’s been a while we posted some rough tunes through our Dusty Cabinets channel. Here is an exclusive mix, okay, about one year old … But this is one for the festive season. “Do You Remember In December” has been recorded live at Watergate, Berlin on 16 Dec. 2009. I had been invited to play at the “My My and Friends” night with the lovely hosts Nick Höppner (label manager of Ostgut Ton and Panoramabar/Berghain resident) and Lee Jones (Watergate/Aus Music). It was such a great night. The tunes are still hot, there is no need to brush the dust off of them.
Music by Prosumer & Murat Tepeli, Joy Orbison, José James, Cooly G., Darkstar, Substance, Shed, DJ Sneak, Shake, Armando Gallop, Roska, Soundstream, Chez Damier and more …
Today is a good day. It took a while to get new sounds for this. Different from the original plan, but well, good music needs its time … and you got to remember: we slow down when everything is going fast. Nevertheless, our close JB. friend and musical pal John Osborn recorded another mix for The Dusty Cabinets series. He already did #03 and this morning he passed over “The Curtain Falls” to us. Brilliant!
The mix is his very own preparation for upcoming Friday 9.7.2010, the 2nd birthday of the successful Dubstep invasion at the highly regarded Club Berghain in Berlin: SUB:STANCE. He will open up the night at Panoramabar alongside SCB aka Scuba, British Garage-legend MJ Cole while downstairs at Berghain the deeper shades of bass music are presented on the huge Funktion One soundsystem by some of the most important protagonists of this scene: Appleblim, Mala of Digital Mystiks, live performances by Mount Kimbie and high-tech three dimensional Techno by the irresistible Monolake.
Enjoy this journey through Dub-Techno sounds by John Osborn with tracks by the likes of Scuba, Omar S, Luke Hess, Skudge and get down to earth again with LFO/F.U.S.E. — “The Curtain Falls” … but first of all we will open it! Applause …

Special. Awesome. Dark and edgy. You definitely need more than one word to describe what it sounds like when Jeff Pils is spinning records as a DJ or releases music under his alias Bogger.
Since the early 90s he is programming soundscapes in several projects as well as hosting radio-shows, such as „Digital Gadget“ and „Zum Alpharaver“ (Herbstradio, Berlin). The Berlin based Oliver Kiesow is also co-running digital-gadget/front, a label for independent electronic music. Known for his fierce DJ-sets at his residency in the berlin institution for rotating meat called Dönerlounge, in recent times he turned his moniker Jeff Pils also into an artist name, signifying tracks that act as open counterparts to the rather hermetical music of Bogger. Since five years Pils is a member of the interactive live performance group “Endliche Automaten” last year touring with an instant composition through eastern europe.
Today we are proud to continue our Dusty Cabinets series with a brandnew, technoid dubstep mix by Jeff Pils — growling and bubbling with that certain groove. Great!
Jeff Pils’ labelmate Helvetikone just released a new free mini album which is available through the digital-gadget website, right here.

The Dusty Cabinets are going live this Friday with a massive line-up. We host a club night at WMF Berlin with some good friends, a very special constellation for this night and this city and a rather rare live performance by dub-techno ambassadors Scion Versions (of Chain Reaction fame), although all artists live in Berlin.
See you all there!

Stepping up with a mix of House with a light touch of ghetto. And as you hum along the basslines, you get cooled down with that stuff we call “dub” and a huge, conspiratorial piano at last. Find some compelling tracks by Tevo Howard, Levon Vincent, Roska, Joy Orbison, Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir …
The next mix has just arrived: The Dusty Cabinets continues with Jeff Pils aka Bogger from Berlin, co-running the small label Digital Gadget / Front. He made a superb technoid Dupstep mix, growling and bubbling with that certain groove. Nice! I will keep you informed when it’s available.
Even more music: a recording of my set during the Watergate night with Nick Höppner and Lee Jones in December 2009 has to be cut. Stay tuned!
Save this date when you are in Berlin: The Dusty Cabinets will happen live at WMF Club on February, 19th. With Scion Versions live (aka Substance & Vainqueur), Errorsmith, John Osborn and me! This is only the beginning, some more events will follow this year. More on this soon. Hope to see you all there!
As Soundcloud, the platform that “takes the daily hassle out of receiving, sending & distributing music for artists, record labels & other music professionals”, made a major update, I thought this would be a good chance to finally put the Soundcloud player with the latest mix (check previous post) right on the page. Don’t know why I never came up with it, but anyway, check the menu on the right side of the player for example to adjust the volume or directly download the quality soundfile with 320 kbit (the player only streams with 128 kbit). It’s so easy, here you are:
Although its short existence since the relaunch, The Dusty Cabinets took the first time-out. JB.‘s guest DJs still back off with their appearances, but they prepare something special. So, I will break the silence and continue the series with a mix I recorded exactly one year ago at early November 2008. I made this House mix for the closing party of the legendary bar/club Waldohreule in Berlin, Kreuzberg, best known for quality Housemusic and the famous freshly served Apfelwein. For whatever reason, this mix had never made it to public. Once opened in 2002 by the nice guys Jan and Saap, this extraordinary bar existed for almost seven years until a new owner of the apartment house forced them to move out. Every true love comes to an end … (I’ve never understood this!) Read more …
Coming up this week: JB. will participate in the show “Berliner Rille” on Herbstradio — Sept. 23rd, 4 pm CET. If you are in Berlin, tune in on 99.1 fm or check the live-streams on Herbstradio wherever you are.
In my case I had to record a mix for the show in advance. That was done at the Unknown Studio, thanks to Morten and his careful treatment of the sound. In case you miss this, the show will be available at JB. afterwards for sure. You will get a second chance to hear me as I will be on a show at Herbstradio early October, I’ll let you all know when the date is confirmed. So drop by and have a listen!
Doenerlounge was a legendary small party series in Berlin a few years ago where everybody had been playing from Mocky, Jamie Lidell, Modeselektor, Smith’n'Hack, The Bug, Suzi Wong, Mo + El Puma, Kevin Blechdom, Hanno Hinkelbein, Jim Avignon, Captain Comatose, Feadz, Tom Clark, Boris and lots more ……. started in July 2003 until it was closed in February 2004 after a police crackdown. No other venue or party series ever existed in Berlin afterwards that had been close to the uniqueness of Doenerlounge. Some stole the name though and tried to embrace the reputation that Cantürk once built up.
From today on (Sept. 2nd) he starts a radio show on HERBSTRADIO — A Free Cultural Radio for Berlin. The radiostation will go on air for three months and Cantürk organizes three shows a week called “Berliner Rille” until November. He invited me to do one of the label shows.
The date is September, 23rd at 4 pm, so JB. and The Dusty Cabinets Show will be on air that day playing favourites for one hour. You are all invited!

The Dusty Cabinets Show is back again and keeps on discovering new and interesting music. It’s time for the second part of the dubstep mix ‘In A Silent Way’. To tie in with the last show, it starts again with a track from the awesome Finnish label Harmönia, then gets dark, straying somewhere in the oceanic depths, temporarily Losing Control and finally hits the road for some serious summer anthems (good for any other season as well). With tracks by Randy Barracuda & Mesak, A Made Up Sound, Robert Hood, Efdemin, (actually a lot of tracks by) Martyn aka 3024, Untold, Ramadanman and more … Enjoy!

Complete tracklists of Part IV & V – “In A Silent Way” / “In A More Silent Way” will be revealed soon. An update of her site is in the works.

With todays mix, JB. deals with the logical coalescence of different subgenres of UK “bass music” and modern, futuristic techno and house. Some people call it dubstep. It’s not the philosopher’s stone, but on a flooded market with standardized productions and less surprising releases, dubstep fills a need for refreshing and inspiring tunes. In the mix: not the grimey and less of the hollering and ripcutting macho movers… but the warm, dubby and bass-heavy breakbeat tunes at the edge of techno. With tracks by Peverelist, Scuba, Appleblim, Shed, T++, Clatterbox, Martyn, Kontext and more …

Come back for tracklist. A second part will soon be available here on JB. Magazine!
Things are pretty busy at the moment and Part III is waiting for release. While preparing the new show that took ages so I put it off for next time, my friend John from Neonman and Studio Higgins responded pretty quickly to my request to do a custom mix for The Dusty Cabinets Show. So here is this powerful House mix exclusively recorded for JB. Thanks for this one, dude! A short interview with John is in the works, too. Enjoy a mix of really deep tunes alongside some heavily muscular floor-fillers. I would say: this guy is British! Welcome our first guest here at …

Check back for an interview with John Osborn within the next days … who knows; maybe he will reveal the tracklist.
With a little delay comes the second part of the show. The mix of today is a great selection of House Classics – old and new. Brilliant tracks from M.K., Mike Dunn, Chip E., Carl Craig or Mr. Fingers and a few current tunes from STL, Tin Man or Moodymann that became instant classics! I recorded that mix in late March 2009. Nothing has been prepared in advance, the selection happened intuitive. No effects, no adjustments!
Welcome to The Dusty Cabinets Show! A radioshow would not be quite correct to say, it’s the bi-weekly DJ mixshow of JB. Magazine. I am your host – Jenne – and I will provide you with unique and curious dance music. Plus: I will acclaim guests in some of the upcoming shows. The mixes will be available for download for a limited time, you will be able to stream them afterwards on our Soundcloud archive. The first show starts with a mix I recorded a couple of months ago.
