Still a bit cold here in Berlin and we don’t want to freeze anymore. But springtime tries to push its way through, coming up with lots of sunshine which makes us crazy going out and skate … This feeling gets perfectly represented by this amazing new promo video “Gangbanging at Ground Zero” by Palace Skateboards from the UK. It is all filmed on VHS which creates that nice early 90s feel, with great music – that excellent intro track “How I Feel” by Theo Parrish – and of course great skating. An interesting company that makes things refreshingly different, with a unique touch given by Mr Will Bankhead, who is involved in the graphic part for Palace. Let’s go outside…

There is an amazing exhibition at pool gallery at the moment. Nicky Broekhuysen creates her works with hand-stamped numbers with black ink on paper with incredibly deep textures, only using the numbers 0 and 1 – the Binary Code. She “employs these two symbols as metaphor for the basic elements that compose the world around us”. Broekhuysen currently lives and works in Berlin, the exhibition BETWEEN STATES, INTO LIGHT runs until 23. April 2011.
Watch this little video interview to see how detailed her work is, simple elements creating such complexity through almost endless repition. Stunning.

Back to regular posts soon. It’s been a busy time here at JB. We are happy, seeing the mag going on its journey around the world. Slowly but surely, but as you know, we slow down when everything is going fast. Thanks all for the great feedback! We’re still working on our list of stockists. Currently JB. is available in Germany and UK stores but whenever you want, 24 hours through our website. Just send a mail to mag[at]justbreathe.de
I went to London last weekend which was good fun. And still digesting all the impressions. But more on that later, there are some things to share. One stop on this trip was the Anorak Magazine office in London Shoreditch. I met with Cathy who gave me loads of printed stuff, all lovely. Older issues, colouring books, the Happy Activity books… And one thing I want to get more detailed about in one of the next posts is the book Food is Fun — Foodie Fun for Kids, done by Cathy Olmedillas and Supermundane who we both featured in our first issue. Have a glance here. It’s awesome!

JB. presents: Matt Pattinson aka Culprit Tech
This post took a while. Hard to keep up with everything, so it got a little quiet here on JB. The last feature in our Shifting Realities issue is nobody else but Matt Pattinson, or if you like, you can call him Culprit Tech. Never heard of him? He is an undercover robot agent from Scotland, an amazing illustrator. He recently worked together with GiveUpArt on the cover artwork of the Horsepower Productions LP. That’s how he found his way into JB. Magazine (thanks Stu!) and gave us this very special piece, exclusive to JB.: “Robot Feeding Squirrel”. The squirrel is sort of JB’s totem animal, the mascot, our best friend. And the squirrel likes robots, and robots like squirrels too. You better watch out for Culprit, he’s doing great things! And being on the back page of the mag, it’s another poster if you like.
