Larry Clark is an highly influential Amercian photographer and film director of his generation, with an often sexually explicit imagery, mostly known for documenting teen life — sex, drug use, violence. His films “Kids” (1995), “Ken Park” or “Wassup Rockers?” shouldn’t be new to you. C/O Berlin has always an amazing program, after Bruce Davidson they host an exhibition with about 200 works by Larry Clark, opening today – 25.05.2012, 7pm.
There is a film series accompanying the exhibition from 05.06. – 17.07.2012, every Tuesday. With films by Gus Van Sant, Annika Eriksson, Larry Clark, Harun Farocki and François Ozon. (the pictures in this post are not specifically from the exhibition)
RELATE / RELEASE
Snaps from the most recent past: I was relearning patience, doing music on a Germany tour for a week with my friends who have this band: The Whitest Boy Alive, talking with dogs, finding surprises, listening to trees and finally just watching the day go by. Release.

“Steel is the king of all building materials, plywood is the queen.”
Exhibitions by Tom Sachs are always pure pleasure. There is one currently happening in NYC — Space Program: Mars. Sachs and his thirteen person studio team crew will be demonstrating all aspects of the installation: food delivery systems, entertainment, agriculture and human waste disposal. They will even be “lifting off” to Mars several times during their residency. Nike is also getting behind this exhibition with the release of Sachs’ own NikeCraft: Mars Yard Shoe.
For now, enjoy seven minutes which are perfectly spent watching one of the videos Sachs’ released in coordination with the exhibition: Love Letter To Plywood.
“It is not uncommon for children to play with their shadows or to imagine that they are tangible. However, in order to grow up, children must leave behind this fantasy…no one ever fully grows up. Instead, growing up is a process that continues throughout life.” — Video by Joe Pease, music by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.

This is the place where I’d wish to be next week: Brachfeld Gallery. A friend — Danielle Rubi-Dentzel (great photographer!) — curates a little group show with the amazing Nathaniel Russell, Kyle Field and Alia Shawkat. California vibes in Paris. Starts at 24.05. and goes until the end of June.
We are big fans of Don Pendleton’s work. He is truly a legendary skate graphic artist who is widely known for his graphic work for Alien Workshop (1998-2005) and Element Skateboards (2005-20??), but also numerous other clients. Don is the cover artist of the forthcoming issue of Juxtapoz. Also in the June 2012 issue: Brooklyn’s Kevin Cyr, Boston’s Raul Gonzalez, Stockholm’s spaced out Killian Eng, and the Bonnie and Clyde of graffiti, Utah and Ether.

“Now here I go again, I see the crystal vision
I keep my visions to myself”
—Fleetwood Mac, ‘Dreams’
I kind of get crystalized by watching Andy Gilmore’s kaleidoscopic pictures. It is all about geometric grids, shapes, repeating patterns and colors that draw you in a world of hypnosis while you are creating your own sounds and melodies to it… full of vision. Wishing to have a whole wall in my room covered with one of these pictures. Genius!

Two more days on a SOLD OUT tour with TWBA as the support act/DJ. Having a good time with friends and doing things you love is the best thing for the right balance and new alignments. We are in Cologne today, Hamburg tomorrow and then going to end The Patience Tour with a huge firework at Golem with a DJ set by my humble self and a live performance by DENA. See you there?! (Picture: stage time in Munich)
I’ll be out and about, on tour with my friends – The Whitest Boy ALive, DJing, hitting the cowbell, shaking the rattle. And just hanging out, doing good and being shiny. If there will be a moment of less Rock’n'Roll, I could probably provide some sort of tour diary in form of a few pics. JB. is having a rest, more or less. You can meet me here this week… from Berlin to Hamburg.
“It’s been a while, but finally… here comes a new mix with amazing tunes, from first to last, rough and raw. Full of power and easy confidence. All in the state of NOW.” — Jenne Grabowski / April 2012 / JB.
New sounds of the NOW for JB. Prior to some of his DJ gigs and the tour with The Whitest Boy Alive comes a new mix by Jenne, straight forward dance tracks with Chic, Wincent Kunth, Andrès, MCDE, MMM, Pearson Sound, DjRum, Substance, Gene Hunt, MM/KM, A Made Up Sound …

Sweet music video of Siren starring Austyn Gillette from Habitat Skateboards, bombing the LA streets. Getting restless and want to go skate while I am watching the video, the vibe is just right. Funny detail: “Unfortunately, Siren had so much fun skating with Austyn, Daryl, and friends that he broke his ankle before filming commenced.” The video is directed by Romke Hoogwaerts who is doing this.

A good friend of mine, photographer Stephan Laackman, has been photographing bands and musicians on and off stage over the past years. Citybirches Photography Works is the name of his project. He wants to set up a photo book, an exhibition and a music compilation. Stephan is now going on a crowdfunding tour on the web to finally realize his project. He gets support by the publishing house Kettler, but there is still some money to collect. If you are drawn to fantastic photos of great people he worked with, such as Sonic Youth, Stephen Malkmus, R.E.M., Future Islands, Dinosaur Jr, Deerhunter and many more, go and help to make this passionate project happen!

There I found it again, out of town. The day was full of light and calm. While others were scrambling through an overcrowded city prior to some common Berlin May riots, I decided to go singing with birds and bubbling with fishes, the first time swimming this year. It was epic! I am a week ahead of touring with my good friends — The Whitest Boy Alive, all shows are sold out. It’s going to be a good one! And then finally finishing the second issue of JB. Stay tuned, and stay inspired!
